AZCentral.com has put out its list of their Top Ten Best Movies for the first half of this year and ‘The Bank Job’ is one of them. They’re saying that most times the big movies come out closer to Academy Award voting time, but there have already been some Oscar contenders that have been released earlier this year and we shouldn’t forget them. Granted, the list includes ‘WALL-E’ and ‘Kung Fu Panda’, but you have to remember that there is a Best Animated Film category for the Oscars. Obviously, ‘The Bank Job’ would be under the Best Picture category…we can only hope!
7 The Bank Job: A period piece, in the best possible way. Jason Statham stars as a low-level crook in way over his head on a job that involves the highest levels of British society. Yes, that means the royal family. Fast-paced and fun (at least until things get ugly), it’s based on a 1971 robbery. Director Roger Donaldson gets the spirit of the times just right, and it’s a big step up for Statham.
