I was browsing through IMDB and found this comment someone had left about a letter they receive from the production company of ‘Death Race’ about filming in the Montreal location.  It was their neighborhood and the film company felt they should alert the residents of the upcoming ‘invasion’ of their area.  This is the entire post which was written on Monday, Septebmer 17th.  Pretty cool stuff!  Is this your backyard?

I received a letter last week directly from Carmageddon 3000 films. It talks about filming between Sept 15th and Oct 28th, at the Silo No. 5 in the Old Port of Montreal, helicopters, car crashes, etc. Here’s the full letter:

Dear residents in the vicinity of Silo No. 5,

More than 500 local film technicians are in preparation for the movie entitled “DEATH RACE” produced by Carmageddon 3000 Films Inc a branch of Universal Pictures. This feature movie, entirely filmed in Montreal is produced by Tom Cruise, Paula Wagner, Jeremy Bolt, and Paul W.S. Anderson who also acts as the director, and designed by Paul Austerbery.

By the year 2020, “Death Race” has become the biggest sporting event in the world. Organized by the US prison system, it is broadcasted live worldwide. This story is inspired by a classic 1970’s movie and star Jason Statham and will be a major Universal pictures release in the summer of 2008.

Filming will start at the Silo No. 5 as of September 15, 2007.

Occasional impact on the neighborhood:
As this film involves car races and stunts, you may have the impression of another Grand Prix in the area. Currently, 22 days of filming are previewed between September 15th and October 28th. Six days out of this period are half-days/half-nights, but noisy activities will end at midnight. Filming may continue after that time, but without loud effects.

Special equipment during filming:
For certain filming activities occuring at night, we will have lighting cranes in the Silo No. 5 area. But mainly, there will be special effects recreating gunfire, explosions and car crashes. A helicopter will be hovering over the site on September 16 and 25, before midnight (weather cover on the following day).
